Pembrokeshire County Council has provided Tenby Town Council with a list of areas in the town that have been identified for cuts in overnight street lighting as an effective measure in reducing the authority's carbon dioxide emissions.

Areas that do not satisfy certain criteria will see their lighting extinguished from midnight to 5.30 am.

When discussing the list at Tuesday night's meeting, councillors were concerned that certain streets of the town that they felt would require overnight lighting were omitted, with Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown advising that the list required a rethink.

"Within the town walls especially, as a seaside town that caters for tourism, I would think that it wouldn't be advisable to turn the street lighting off anywhere in the town for health and safety reasons; we'd be asking for trouble if we did," commented Clr. Paul Rapi.

Councillors agreed to write to the county council with their concerns and also to forward the list to the town's police authorities.
