Christine Gwyther AM has raised the issue of ambulances stuck outside Glangwili accident and emergency unit at Carmarthen, and how this affects the ambulance service as a whole. "This problem has been highlighted to me by constituents who have reported as many as five ambulances being parked up outside Glangwili Hospital waiting for their patients to be admitted," she said. "One patient was waiting there for over four hours. This practice clearly has an impact on the hard pressed ambulance service throughout West Wales. "As well as complaining to the Carmarthenshire Trust, I raised the issue on the floor of the Welsh Assembly Chamber and later in a scrutiny session of the First Minister. I also met with the acting chief executive of the Pembrokeshire Trust and she promised that the practice of keeping ambulances parked outside A and E would not be tolerated at Withybush. "We have to be vigilant that health trusts do not compromise the effective running of other services - in this case the ambulance service. I am therefore pressing the Welsh Assembly Government to keep on top of health trusts to ensure this does not happen again."
