Plans to site a small scale art gallery at a former fishmongers at Tenby harbour have been recommended for refusal by members of the town council.

The application submitted by Mr. Crispin Cutting, for the change of use of the premises at Penniless Cove Hill, to open a small scale art gallery selling work from local artists, that would also offer snacks and refreshments, was turned down by councillors at their meeting on Tuesday.

Members received two letters objecting to the proposals, one from the owners of the Dennis Café on Castle Beach, who felt "there were already enough existing food outlets in the immediate harbour area" while the other came from Claire Miles, of the Harbour Snack Bar, who had concerns about such a premises causing an obstruction to the route down to the harbour.

Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown agreed with both letters of objection, and said that the narrowness of the hill would be a cause for concern with regards to traffic and pedestrians trying to access the harbour area, if an art gallery and food outlet was situated in such a location.

The council's recommendations are to be passed on to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority who will determine the outcome of the application.
