A councillor has spoken of her concerns over cut-backs to on-call doctor services in Tenby.
Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas raised the subject at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, when she referenced a letter that had appeared in the Tenby Observer recently from a concerned parent who had been told that the on-call doctor service would no longer be available in the Tenby area and be based as far as South Pembs Hospital in Pembroke Dock or Withybush Hospital.
Clr. Mrs. Thomas and former chair of the Tenby Cottage Hospital Local Implementation Group, Mr. Mansel Thomas, recently got together to form a PPI (Patient and Public Involvement) group for the area, the 'South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network', but Clr. Mrs. Thomas explained to her colleagues that she had become increasingly frustrated by efforts to get the group up and running.
"I'd like to write to Anna Tee of the Hywel Dda Trust again and see why none of the proposals regarding the group which we were promised would see the light of day in the New Year have yet to arise," remarked Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
"With regard to the issue of the on-call doctor service in the Tenby area being taken away, well that is very worrying and I know that Mansell Thomas has been in touch with the Community Health Council regarding our concerns.
"Why are these things allowed to happen without any consultation? It's a terrific journey for anyone from say the Amroth area to have to travel to Pembroke Dock and just think about how vast the population of the likes of Tenby becomes during the busy summer season," she continued.
Clr. Mrs. Thomas said that she would consult with local AM Angela Burns on the matter and seek her support.
