Pembrokeshire Police are becoming increasingly concerned about the activities of telesales companies who have been contacting a number of local businesses purporting to be working with, or on behalf of, the police selling advertising space in various publications, the most recent allegedly some form of crime prevention publication.

The police would like to warn all businesses that they are not currently working with any company in connection with this and would like to advise businesses to be careful what response they give and to ask direct questions of the caller.

1. Are you a police officer?

2. What police station are you working with?

3. Ask for a telephone number where the caller can be contacted; if this is not provided, then extreme caution should be exercised.

5. Try 1471 on your 'phone after the call and record any number.

Incidents should be reported to your local police station or council trading standards department.
