He wrote to the First Minister to ask that he explore the possibility of obtaining European funding for the project. In his letter, Nick Bourne said: "I am writing to express my concern at reports that the A40 road in Pembrokeshire will not be dualled until at least 2015. "I am sure that you will be aware of the vital importance this road plays in the economy of West Wales and I would be grateful if you could advise me whether the possibility of utilising funding under the Convergence ERDF programme has been explored to progress this project at the earliest opportunity."
