Controversial plans for a former Tenby hotel should be put on hold for local objectors and councillors to meet with the applicants on site, members of Tenby Town Council agreed this week.
Before members at their meeting on Tuesday night were two applications from S. N. and G. M. Farrow, of Woodstock, Frances Road, Saundersfoot, for the former Bryn-y-Mor Hotel on the town's Narberth Road.
The first application was to change the use of the hotel into 14 apartments with stairs/lift and leisure complex to the rear, while the second application was for three cottages, six apartments and six apartments and integral garaging.
Clr. Mickey Folland felt that this was "a very complex" plan which had already sparked a number of objections from local residents.
He said that some of the objections seemed to be based on rumour and felt that a site meeting needed to be organised between the applicants, objectors, town councillors and National Park and county highways officers.
He was concerned about the implications of the application from a traffic point of view, particularly with the new housing development underway across the road at Haytor Gardens and felt that, due to the "complexity of the development", the town council should be appraised of all the facts by both the applicants and objectors before making any formal recommendation to the National Park Authority's development control committee.
Members heard that the applications were due to come before Park planners at their next meeting later this month and resolved to ask them to defer their decision to allow a site meeting to be arranged.
Members also recommended approval of a plan by Evie Carew, of 4 Tredegar House, Tudor Square, for a marine chandlery and watersports base at store two, Tenby Harbour.
