RED Shift Theatre Company presents 'The Third Man', Grahame Greene's most compelling thriller, at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, on Thursday, March 3, at 7.30 pm. Adapted and directed by Jonathan Holloway, the producion has been designed by Neil Irish, with music by Ross Brown. Red Shift's cinematic style is thrilling, refreshingly vigorous and up-to-the-minute, according to 'Time Out'. It's 1948, and in war-torn Vienna black-marketeers run rings around the occupying forces; racketeers traffic in essential drugs and reinvent themselves with false identities. Nothing is as it seems. Amidst the chaos of liberation, a naive pulp novelist from England, Rollo Martins, finds himself embroiled in a plot more twisted and chilling than any of his own titles as he is led through the underbelly of post war Vienna in pursuit of the truth about his friend's suspicious death. 'The Third Man' is a familiar title, largely due to the success of Carol Reed's film, which was recently voted the No 1 film of the 20th Century in a poll undertaken by the British Film Institute. Red Shift present a darker, more sinister version based on Greene's novella, and it is an incredible reminder of why the company has a high reputation for inventive adaptations, ingenious design and musical innovation. The cast includes Anthony Gabriel (A Woman of No Importance, An Inspector Calls, Sir Peter Hall's Amadeus) as Rollo, Norwegian actress Siri Ingul as Anna, Harry Lime's lover, Andrew Forbes (The Real Thing, Anthony and Cleopatra, both West End) as Calloway and Justin Webb as the elusive Lime. Tickets may be purchased from the Torch Box Office on 01646 695267.
