A COMPELLING musical love story performed by a multi-talented cast of London's West End performers visits Milford Haven's Torch Theatre this weekend. 'Over the Rainbow' has received rapturous receptions since its first performance - testament to the overwhelming popularity of the inspired songstress whose life and music it follows. It was Terry Wogan who discovered the haunting interpretation of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' by Eva Cassidy - a voice which was soon to capture the hearts of us all - but sadly it was two years after her untimely death at the age of 33 and Eva was never to know the extent of her popularity. What would she have felt knowing that her album knocked Robbie Williams off the top spot when it was released in 2003? 'Over the Rainbow' is a genuine and heartfelt tribute to Eva Cassidy, a true artist in every sense of the word. The musical weaves 23 of her much loved songs into a story which takes us on a musical journey from her early years viewed through the eyes of her parents, growing up and adolescence, her love of art and a developing musical talent. It traces her life story from being taught harmonies at an early age, to her first audition, and subsequent recordings, paying tribute to her bravery, her recording career, friendships and loves, and culminating with her tragic death. Capturing the beautiful qualities of this wonderfully talented and spiritual song stylist who had no interest in fame and fortune, no other musical has received such an emotional response since Blood Brothers. 'Over the Rainbow' is performed by Eureka Theatre Productions and can be seen at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30 pm. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Theatre Box Office on 01646 695267.
