TWO new courses aimed at developing community workers' knowledge and skills have recently been launched by Pembrokeshire College.

The first group of community workers enrolled this month on what is the first NVQ in Community Development Work to be offered in Pembrokeshire.

The key aim of the course is to assist in the development of community workers' skills and knowledge, benefiting both the individuals on the course and also the organisations they work for or/and the communities they serve.

The award, which is supported by the European Social Fund, offers vocational training at levels NVQ two and three for those people who are working either as volunteers or paid workers in the voluntary or community work sectors.

The award is based upon work place assessment supported by a series of workshops at venues throughout the county. The qualification can be gained over a time period of between six months and two years depending on personal circumstances and will involve many key organisations in the community.

Any person who is working either paid or as a volunteer is encouraged to join the course and should phone admissions for more information on 0800 716 236.
