The ‘Tenby Deep Clean’ project launched last week with everyone in the community encouraged to grab a litter-picker and get on board with the campaign.
The campaign set up by the Plastic Free Tenby team will run for the whole of the month of June, inviting all those who reside in the seaside town to join in, whilst following the most up to date Covid-19 guidelines, to join us in getting Tenby Clean!
“We are all very excited to launch the ‘Tenby Deep Clean’ campaign, so please join us in getting Tenby clean!” said Michelle Beamish a member of the Plastic Free Tenby team.
“Remember we’re not just talking about tackling beaches, but woodland, hedgerows, even streets and green spaces, providing they are open.
“Whether it is just a few items collected during a 10 minute walk or a planned event with members of your household, everything will help to clear away all the litter and rubbish which may have been hidden or obscured by the overgrown hedges and grass verges,” she continued.
Loaned litter-pickers are available to borrow from the Tenby Deep Clean table in the foyer of the De Valence Pavilion on Upper Frog Street on weekdays; whilst campaign posters which have been popping up in shop windows of businesses throughout the town, are also available.
As well as some of the towns beaches, other areas tackled so far by members of the team and the community include a section between St Teilo’s school and St John’s Hill, as well as the Green.
“I think the most we found were crisp packets, closely followed by alcohol cans and bottles, along with the disgusting dog poo in poo bags, thrown into bushes!” continued Michelle.
“We practically filled our whole red bag just from this area. We kept the glass bottle separate, using additional bags, and took them down to the Salterns bottle bank to recycle them.
“It’s amazing to see our campaign is also inspiring other communities across Pembrokeshire to instigate their own tidy up campaign, so well done all!” she added.
Gary Tapley, of Plastic Free Tenby continued: “We find ourselves in an unprecedented time with no tourists or visitors, so there’s never been a better time to get Tenby clean.
“People are going out for exercise and many have a lot more time on their hands, so this could give them a focus when they’re out and about.”
