Narberth Town Council has backed a proposal for a community support officer in the town. During a meeting with Inspector Les Clark this week, members heard that Dyfed Powys Police had submitted a bid to the Home Office to employ more community support officers who should, if permission is granted, be in post by April 2005. Pembrokeshire would receive a proportionate number of any posts and Insp. Clark hoped Narberth would be able to seek the services of one of them. "Many of the low level anti-social behaviour reports and parking complaints that we as a service receive would be dealt with by a community support officer, who would patrol the streets on foot and offer the visible reassuring presence so demanded by yourselves and the public," the officer said. "The prospect of obtaining a community support officer for Narberth is realistic and achievable and I seek your support in this regard," he added. Members agreed.
