British Transport Police are not treating the death of a man who was killed when struck by a train near the level crossing at Station Hill in St. Clears on Sunday as suspicious.

Thirty-seven-year-old Barry Pickersgill, who was well-known in the local community, died just after 4.30 pm after being hit by the 3.45 pm train from Milford Haven to Llanelli.

A technician with Carmarthenshire County Council's highways department, Barry was a keen sportsman, having played rugby for Whitland and St. Clears RFCs, also representing St. Clears at squash.

Barry, along with his brothers Howard, Phillip and Clive, also turned out regularly with friends to take part in local six-a-side football matches.

As well as his brothers, he leaves his parents Betty and Ron Pickersgill, of Laugharne, sisters-in-law and eight nephews and nieces.

The funeral takes place today (Friday) at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, at 9.15 am.
