IN spite of the wet weather on Saturday, May 16, the South West Wales Vintage Tractor and Engine Club had a wonderful turnout for their charity run in aid of Breast Cancer Now.

The event started at St Ishmael’s Garden Centre and followed a circular route of 26 miles including some off-road driving and a pit stop at Broad Haven. Twenty-five tractors took part and a successful raffle was held prior to the start, with any further donations being gratefully accepted.

The only lady driver Jo Richards, who is also treasurer of the club, suggested the charity to the predominantly male group of members in support of her best friend who had gone through diagnosis and treatment of Breast Cancer herself.

Prior to the event, a talk was given to the group by Sheila Ralph, a local volunteer for the charity, who gave an outline of the work it did and how the money raised would be used. It was a surprise to some of the men present that they too could get Breast Cancer so it is important to raise awareness in everyone.

The final figure will be revealed at the September meeting of the club, when the cheque will be handed to Sheila so that the charity can continue its work into research, treatment and care of those people suffering from the disease.
