THIS September, St James Church Manorbier hosted a free course laid on by the United Society Partners in the Gospel (USPG) Anglican mission charity, by kind permission of Rev’d Martine Johnson.

During four afternoons in September, Malcom Henson -who stays regularly in his Manorbier caravan and is a parishioner - provided face-to-face insights into developing nations across Africa as well as India, The Philippines and Ukraine, amongst the many places the Society works. The talks covered the climate crisis and how technology can help.

The first two sessions talked about climate crisis in Africa and India and how it impacts on agriculture. Homework set included lobbying the Senedd. The following week’s sessions focussed on the work in Ukraine.

Responding to a recently published article in the Tenby Observer, Mr Henson added: “I agree with Rob James… that atheism is a bankrupt philosophy.”

He advocated following the 10 commandments, highlighting ‘Do not kill’, and said that Jesus’ instruction to ‘Love thy neighbour as thyself’ was one “to which each one of us should adhere.”

Referring to a headline in Pobl Dewi, the quarterly diocesan newspaper of the Diocese of St Davids, ‘Open to God’, he added: “At a time when many are confused with beliefs, it’s important to stand up and be counted.”
