A TEAM of friends from Tenby who showed support to homeless veterans has received the RBVE Great Tommy Sleep Out Top Fundraising Group 2026 award.
For Tenby Royal British Legion Chairman Shane Roberts, it’s an honour: “This recognition means a great deal to us, but more importantly it shines a light on the incredible generosity, community spirit, and support shown by everyone who donated, shared, encouraged, and stood behind the cause.”

Organised by Shane Roberts and Tenby Royal British Legion branch member Gareth Lloyd-Jones, this year’s event went even further than before, with a 48hr sleep out on March 2 and 3 at St Mary’s Church, in Tudor Square.
Shane was joined by the seaside town’s Mayor, Cllr Dai Morgan (also a member of Tenby Royal British Legion), Rev’d Steve Brett (TRBL Chaplain), and fellow member Dylan Sutton. Also taking part were - Chris Didcote, Craig Sutton and Byron Jenkins.
The Tenby Sleep Out helped to raise over £2,000 as part of the BAE Systems-sponsored campaign, in support of veterans across the UK.
Shane said: “The Great Tommy Sleep Out is about far more than one night outdoors — it’s about raising awareness and vital funds for veterans who are facing homelessness and hardship. To know that our efforts have helped make a difference is something I’m incredibly proud of.
“A huge thank you to everyone involved, and to the team behind the campaign for the amazing work they continue to do for veterans nationwide.”
Following the Sleep Out in Tenby, Cllr Morgan remarked: “I find that what we have is too often taken for granted - including our freedom - which men and women fight for us and then sadly can become forgotten about.”
Shane added: “People’s generosity is unbeatable in Tenby - not just for donations, but support and engagement as a whole.”
