SUMMERHILL WI’s June day out started with a visit to Pembrokeshire FRAME’s workshops in Haverfordwest before heading to Stackpole Walled Gardens, near Pembroke, for lunch and an afternoon of exploration.
Nineteen ladies were given an extensive tour of the various departments ranging from the sorting rooms to reupholstery and furniture upcycling.
A most interesting morning was had before everyone departed to Stackpole Gardens for lunch. This was followed by an afternoon of garden exploration. With glorious weather the order of the day, ladies relaxed with ice-cream or afternoon tea after having either purchased plants or picked punnets of succulent strawberries.
The next event in the June timetable was the strawberry tea held at the Amroth Parish Hall, Summerhill. Despite inclement weather, the hall was full to capacity. Guests enjoyed strawberries and cream, followed by tea or coffee and a plate of mixed cakes.
Thanks must be extended to everyone who helped on the day from donating cakes, to helping in the kitchen and selling raffle tickets. A special thank you goes to local WI’s and everyone who supported the afternoon with some guests having travelled from as far as Mathry and Boncath.
The next meeting of Summerhill WI will be held in Amroth Parish Hall on Monday, July 13 at 7pm when Julian Cremona will give a talk and presentation on wildlife and nature travels in Chile. Hostesses will be Dawn, Sandra and Marilyn.
