Discover St Mary Magdalene’s Church history at St Clears open day

St Mary Magdalene’s Church in St Clears will welcome visitors for a special open day this Saturday, offering a chance to discover more about the church’s history, heritage and place within the local community.

The church will be open from 10am until 4pm on September 5, with a varied programme including floral art, local history, family activities and an opportunity to explore historic parish records.

At 11am, visitors can enjoy a floral arts demonstration by Lilwen Thomas, a Royal Welsh prize winner recognised for her floral displays.

Then, at 2pm, Thomas Lloyd, President of the Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society, will give a talk on the history of St Mary Magdalene’s Church and its significance within the area.

Throughout the day, families will be able to take part in a church explorer trail, while historic marriage and baptism registers will also be available to view, offering visitors an opportunity to delve into local and family history.

There will also be a second-hand book stall and refreshments available throughout the day.
