A SPECIAL meeting was held by St Issell’s WI, Saundersfoot, on November 13. As president, Diane Rigden (pictured) welcomed the ladies and, as it was a special meeting, the evening commenced with the singing of Jerusalem.

Thanks were extended to Mary Lawrence and Bev Bennet for providing flowers for the top table, and birthday girls for November were Sue Haines, Sue Gould, Anne-Marie Littlewood, Liz Talboys and Mary Cavell. Sympathy was expressed to Mary Sefton on the recent loss of her husband, and Diane confirmed that a card and flowers had been sent to Mary.

Madelene was thanked for the walk on November 10, the six ladies managing to miss the showers. Ladies have paid the £10 deposit for the Christmas lunch at Bramleys on December 4, and final arrangements were made for those attending the Annual Meeting at Haverfordwest on Saturday.

A carol service will be held at St Issell’s Church on December 10 at 2pm; ladies were asked to make mince pies, and there were several volunteers. Bee agreed to be the organist, and Val is liaising with Rev’d Martine Johnson.

Pam had brought along the wool that was to be used for the scarves for the Eisteddfod, and several ladies were interested in forming a knitting group, a date to be advised. Anne-Marie agreed to make a scarf by the next meeting.

Bev announced she had successfully arranged a speaker for the December meeting; the talk to be followed by the usual Christmas buffet. Ladies are asked to bring along five Christmas cards to the next meeting which will be distributed to the local residential homes.

Diane read through the newsletter; there was no interest in WI house windows. Pam also mentioned the trip to Cardiff on November 20. There was some discussion about Sports and Leisure, the general feeling that more sport is needed. This month’s competition winner for a motto for 2026 was Jacqui Cowgill with: “If you can’t do it, don’t do it, but if you can do it, then do it.” Julia King-Thomas was the lucky raffle winner.

The monthly meeting closed with refreshments, followed by the Annual General Meeting in which Diane Rigden’s continuation as president was confirmed.
