ROUTES to Discovery returned to Springwood Sanctuary, a rewilding sanctuary and forever home for 22 free roaming horses, ponies and donkeys near Carmarthen.

The project members felt very lucky to have been invited back to this non-profit sanctuary for rescued and rehabilitated horses, donkeys and ponies; they absolutely love it there and it’s always something to look forward to when it’s in the diary!

After a wonderful welcome from Jacqui and David, they settled in with a cuppa by the lake while we heard about the new developments since their last visit, including the beautiful lakeside yurt.

They set out for a walk along the river, discussing the healing properties of many of the plants we spotted along the way, and snacking on juicy blackberries as they strolled. They spent time at peaceful spots, quieting their minds and just taking it all in, slowing right down and enjoying mindful moments connecting with nature.

Following the walk, the visitors helped with some practical work out in the fields before heading back to the lakeside to enjoy a lunch provided by their hosts. By all accounts it was a delicious spread, with sausage rolls just out of the oven.

Afterwards, they chilled out with a bit of pebble art, something to take home as a keepsake from the day. Finally, the group headed into the yurt where Jacqui led a sound bath meditation; the healing sound vibrations from Tibetan singing bowls and chimes leaving everyone completely relaxed and taking a moment to reflect with gratitude on a lovely day.

Routes to Discovery is delivered in partnership by Mind Pembrokeshire and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority. The project is all about the restorative power of nature, so Springwood Sanctuary fits the bill perfectly.
