KILGETTY WI members gathered at the community centre on May 12 with items ready for an evening of ‘swishing’ where unwanted items of clothing and accessories are swapped/recycled with other members.
Julia Mills (president) opened the meeting by warmly welcoming everyone and then matters of business were discussed. Secretary Shirley Cox informed members of invites received to attend functions being held by other Pembrokeshire WI’s. Birthdays celebrated this month were Sue Hole and Anna Stroud.
Jayne Shorten told members the good news of her recent achievement: she was awarded her first International cap and will be representing Wales as part of the ladies Welsh International Fishing team at Rutland Water in June. Good luck Jayne!
Sylvia Wright, who had done a fantastic job of treasurer for the last two-and-a-half years had resigned due to ill health. Julia asked if any of the members felt they could commit to taking on the role. Lyn Lawson was voted in as a committee member after her long absence.
An evening of swishing followed - with refreshments and homemade Welsh cakes made by Shirley Cox. Items left at the end of swishing were donated to a local charity and raised approximately £60.
The monthly competition was won by Penny Brace, 2nd Linda Scott and 3rd Linda Goff. Susan Pettigrew was the lucky raffle winner.
Members are looking forward to their outing in June where they will visit Cardigan Castle and have a boat ride to see dolphins in New Quay.
New members are always welcome.
