ON Sunday, June 22, Rev’d Martine Johnson was formally licensed at a joyful service at St Mary’s Church, Begelly, writes Oliver Johnson.

Officiating was the Right Rev’d Dorrien Davies, Bishop of St Davids, marking the beginning of Rev’d Martine’s ministry as Priest-in-Charge in the Local ministry area of Narberth and Tenby.

Rev’d Martine, who was ordained a Priest in 2023, now has pastoral oversight of four churches in Begelly, Manorbier, St Florence, and East Williamston. She is eager to grow and nurture these churches, rooting her ministry in warmth, kindness, and an approachable nature, as she opens the Church doors for all who seek God’s love.

A new service called Searching Sunday will be held at St Mary’s, Begelly, on Sunday, July 20 at 4pm. This informal, come-as-you-are service will begin with homemade tea and cake. A calming safe space will be provided for quiet reflection and prayer.

Rev’d Martine describes Searching Sunday as a time for those who might be feeling lost, longing for a connection, or just simply wondering about God.

As a young girl, Rev’d Martine experienced a sense of love and peace after being called by God. She recalls her first visit to church, feeling unwelcome and confused by church customs. Now, years later, her experience motivates her to create a warm, comfortable environment for everyone.

As Rev’d Martine begins this new chapter of her ministry, she looks forward to enriching the lives of her congregations and calling Pembrokeshire communities to Christ.
