Despite waiting for an hour in vain for an ambulance, a couple on holiday in Pembrokeshire have praised the staff at Withybush A&E for their care and commitment.
Mrs Delma Price, from Ebbw Vale, told the Observer: “We were on holidays at Stepaside, when my husband was suddenly taken ill. We called for an ambulance but after an hour we were informed there was no ambulance available, so my daughter decided she would drive him to Withybush A&E herself.
“My husband was seen extremely quickly and was given an ECG and then quickly taken into a resus bay. There he was treated extremely well by the team. It was a very worrying time for us all, but was made easier for us by the swift action of all staff.”
Delma continued: “My husband was admitted for four days and given IV antibiotics and was very well cared for. We as his family couldn’t believe how quickly he was processed and given an x-ray within a hour of him being seen followed by two separate CT scans the same day.

“The hospital itself was very clean and the staff didn’t just support my husband as the patient they were fantastic with us as a family. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone in the hospital for their care and kindness throughout his stay.”

The experience occurred in the final days of a Health Board consultation that proposes centralising A&E at Glangwili.
In an update on September 3, Delma added: “We are now settled at home, and my husband is much better.
“We are thrilled with the treatment and care Grahame received at withybush hospital; everyone was so positive kind and helpful to us all as a family, a thank you was the least we could extend.”
