On Thursday, March 8, the deacons of Rhydwilym Baptist Chapel in Llandissilio will be updating the local community on the status of their plans for the restoration and development of the chapel. The meeting will be taking place in Tafarn Sinc, Rosebush, near Maenclochog, between 10.30 am and 1 pm. There is no charge for attendance, but delegates must register to attend (contact Rev. Eirian Wyn Lewis 01994 419305). Light refreshments will be available after the event. Among the invited speakers are County Councillor Huw George - Pembrokeshire County Council, Rev. Llinos Edwards, Dave Hoyle - Ysgol Nant y Cwm, Sian Rees - Maenclochog Hall, Martin Lloyd - Ysgol Preseli and author and journalist, Hefin Wyn. Senior deacon Rhys Adams said: "A lot has happened since our last community meeting and a number of options for development have been outlined. These options will be discussed at the meeting and it is very important that we seek the views of local people and organisations before making any major decisions. As well as being important to the chapel members, this is essentially a project which will have a great impact on the local area. We want to make sure that the community is wholeheartedly behind the work we will eventually undertake." As part of their planning for a major restoration and development project, the deacons of Rhydwilym Chapel have appointed an architect to report on the condition of the buildings and identify the work which needs to be completed. The project will involve the setting up of a small museum and education centre. The intention of the seminar is to provide an update on the progress of the project and to consult with the community on the next stages of development. The seminar and planning meetings have been funded by Awards for All Wales fund. Rhydwilym Chapel is an historic chapel. It was established in 1668 and founded many chapels in south-west Wales and a number in the USA. It is situated in a very beautiful valley on a bank of the Eastern Cleddau River.
