A breakdown in communications between Narberth's county councillor and the town council appears to have been resolved. At last month's meeting of the council, Clr. David Norcross asked how the council could re-establish links with County Clr. Wynne Evans and work in harmony for the benefit of the town. At that meeting, town councillors were also concerned that issues were being reported in the local press before they were informed. It was then agreed to contact Clr. Evans about the matter. At this week's meeting, the clerk, Mrs. Caroline Coaker, read a letter from Clr. Evans, while the Mayor, Clr. Eric Feetham, reported on a recent meeting he had had with him. In his letter, Clr. Evans admitted that there had been a breakdown in communications which he said was "unfortunate". "I can assure you, I have the utmost respect for the town council and I am on record as saying Narberth council is one of the most pro-active councils in the county," Clr. Evans said. "Please appreciate that things happen in town on a daily basis. I do deal with numerous issues that affect individuals in the town and operate an appointment system for surgeries," he continued. "The press are the eyes and ears of the people and that allows people to know exactly what is going on at all times," he said. "It is only right and proper that the town council should be made aware of issues when they happen, and together we should all strive to benefit the community and people of Narberth and work together. That works both ways by you also asking me for support or input on issues that concern you. "I hope to meet the Mayor on a monthly basis to streamline my report. As you are aware, I was accused of giving you too much information last year, so I do not want to repeat that." Clr. Evans said that current projects he was working on included road adoptions, the upgrading of the water treatment works, and alternative sites for additional car parks. "I look forward to a better working relationship with you," he concluded. At Tuesday night's town council meeting, Clr. Feetham said that his meeting with Clr. Evans had been productive, but Clr. Evans had been informed that there was no point in the Mayor hearing details of things from Clr. Evans if those details had already appeared in the local press. Clr. Evans also said that when he had finished attending his current course in a few months time, which prevented him from attending town council meetings, he would be able to attend them once again.
