Senior Aircraftman Gareth Jones, an RAF Reserve Medic, has received a special commendation from his Commanding Officer at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan following a six-month tour in 2013.

The commendation is awarded for exceptionally valuable service in support of Joint Force Support.

Gareth trained as a medic with the RAF Reserves over several years before he took this tour of duty. He is also second in command with the local Coastguard and has been the chair of trustees of Pembroke 21C Community Association for some years.

"His fellow trustees are justifiably as proud of Gareth receiving this commendation as he is," said vice-chair Kenvyn Jones. "Such awards are rare and Gareth was very surprised to receive it when he attended a weekend training session in mid-October. He is a credit to this community."
