An exciting exhibition is being staged in Narberth recording the stories and experiences of people from the town involved in both the First and Second World Wars.

'Coming Home to Narberth' is being presented by Home Front Recall and the Friends of Narberth Museum and is part of an ongoing project by volunteer Mary Jones, who in the course of her interviews with Narberth veterans has uncovered some fascinating stories and amazing coincidences. The three-day photographic exhibition (September 12-14) at the Narberth Museum Bookshop, 11 Market Street, is part of a special Lottery programme called Veterans Reunited to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The exhibition will be opened by the Mayor of Narberth, Clr. David Norcross at 10.30 am on Monday, September 12. Also on that day, there will be a wartime cookery demonstration at 3 pm followed by a Victory Tea. The exhibition will be open until 8 pm. On the Tuesday and the Wednesday, the exhibition will be open between 10.30 am and 5.30 pm. Also on the Tuesday, there will be a school visit and jazz for juniors with wartime tunes. A Victory Tea will also be served between 4 and 5.30 pm with live jazz from Jazz R Us. Meanwhile, on the Wednesday, there will be another school visit with wartime rhymes and Home Front raps! "One of the important elements of the project is that we are not just researching and safeguarding the stories, but are passing them on to following generations - grandchildren and great- grandchildren of those who served in the wars," said museum curator, Mrs. Pauline Griffiths. "To this end, we want to include visits to the exhibition by teachers, youth leaders and all young people who are interested in this period in Narberth's history," she added. It is also hoped that as many as possible will drop in and record their wartime memories in the special visitors books which will become part of the Narberth Museum's archives - creating history for tomorrow. People are also welcome to take along their photos for scanning and including in the Narberth Wartime Scrapbooks and help to compile the town's own Roll of Honour, recording the names of all those who returned home after the war.
