Bringing the season to a bright and colourful close at Colby Gallery is Neil Croucher's exhibition of stained and decorative glass.
Neil's designs range from the traditional to the modern; from Celtic myth to Celtic ecclesiastical, which is no more than one would expect from an artist who has worked on projects ranging from Hereford Cathedral to the atrium of Swansea's DVLC. This is an exhibition where you can purchase everything from the smallest gift item mirror to the largest of custom designed windows (though for the latter you will need to purchase by special commission!). What you can be sure of, is that, large or small, every item is individually hand- crafted and totally unique.
A focal point of Neil's exhibition will be his Carew Cross which will complement the 'Lunch and Lecture' on Wednesday, October 26, to be given by George and Jill Rawlins. Neil is no stranger to Carew, having worked on past archaeological and restoration projects, while the Rawlins' have been involved in 'living history' events, and for many years produced their own very popular Mummers plays featuring all the castle's colourful characters.
Colourful in every sense of the word! Putting them all together under one roof was a bright idea dreamed up to enliven the (occasional) dreariness of an autumn afternoon, though, hopefully there will be plenty of October sunshine for visitors to enjoy the woodland gardens as well. Either way, a visit to the gallery and/or gardens promises a 'colour shot' guaranteed to banish the autumn blues.
The stained glass exhibition runs from October 17 to the season's close on Sunday, October 30. Before then, don't forget the 'Big Draw' tomorrow (Saturday), when a range of activities for aspiring artists of all ages will be available at no additional charge. National Trust staff and volunteers will be joined by artist Jacquie Walden, who will be working in clay, as well as being on hand to sign her book 'Pencilled in Pembs' - a must for all serious sketchers.
A few places are still left for the 'Lunch and Lecture' on October 26. To reserve, please ring 814200.
