PEMBROKESHIRE College A and AS level students have surpassed the average achieved for candidates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Faculty manager Sian Thompson said: "Yet again, there have been some outstanding individual achievements with a good overall pass rate. The mature students have also done very well."

Many of the students have opted to carry on with their studies at university or college.

Learning services manager Maxine Thomas commented: "The majority of students have been offered either their first or second choice of their chosen university. And all the students so far who have had to go through clearing have had good offers or interviews."

Faith Giles gained A grades in English Literature and Language, French and Law and is now considering what to do next in her gap year whilst travelling to New Zealand and a few other countries.

Mature student Gareth Lee gained A grades in Law and Business and a C in Environmental Science and a D in Environmental Science and with extra UCAS points gained in key skills is optimistically looking forward to studying law at the University of Wales, Cardiff in September.

Gareth said: "After completing my GCSEs in Whitland, I worked as an agricultural contractor for four years, but decided to change my career. Pembrokeshire College has been a brilliant place to study, especially the support from staff from start to finish."
