Pembroke power station workers Mair Lewis and Steve Clack were members of the fourth, and final, npower boat to cross the Channel in aid of the company's charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mair and Steve, who both live in Neyland, and their colleagues managed to arrive in France in just five hours and six minutes, the second fastest of the four fundraising boats and well under the six or seven hours they anticipated it would take. At one point, they were even racing a cross-Channel ferry.
The experience was something Mair will never forget, as she explains: "The experience was fantastic! I'd never rowed a boat like this before so I was very excited when the company put out the call for volunteers. I started training immediately and am just happy to have had the opportunity to do it and help raise so much money for Macmillan."
The npower rowers were trained for their adventure by Langstone Adventure Rowing, who trained and coxed John Bishop's celebrity team across the Channel in his 'Week of Hell' for Sport Relief and an amazing £32,000 has been raised for the Macmillan Cancer Support as a result of the npower teams' efforts.
