Speaker at the October meeting of the Pembrokeshire Aviation Group was group member Ron Boreham. He spoke about a very interesting period in his RAF career serving on 51 Squadron flying in the Comet R.1 reconnaissance aircraft.

He recalled some of the special missions flown to gather intelligence by flying along the borders of the Soviet Union.

On approaching the Russian coastline they would always be intercepted by Russian fighter aircraft, and this resulted in some tense moments for the Comet crews.

These reconnaissance missions were essential during the cat-and-mouse games played by both sides during the 'Cold War'.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, November 11, at Sunderland House, The Royal Dockyard, Pembroke Dock, at 7.30 pm, when group member Mike Wargent will talk on 'Terrorism and the Support Helicopter'. Non-members very welcome.
