Having held 16 qualifying Whist Drives throughout Pembrokeshire and West Carmarthenshire, the final of the Second Colby Cup Tournament took place at the Nant-y-Ffin Hotel on May 30. Mr Derek Davies was the Master of Ceremonies, with 28 tables in play. Mr. Fern Harfoot, Hayscastle Cross, won the cup and £40, with a score of 176. Other results were: 1st lady - Mrs. Joan Lloyd, of Cardigan; 2nd lady - Mrs. June Reynolds, of Wolfscastle; 3rd and 4th tie between Mrs. M Collins, of Roch, and Mrs. B. Phillips, of St. Clears. 1st gent - Mr. William Thomas from Boncath; 2. Mr. Peter Willimas, Carmarthen; 3rd and 4th tie between Mrs. Olive Williams, of Dinas, and Mr. Desmond Daye, of Lampeter Velfrey. The lucky player was Mr. Gerient Webb, of Nevern. Highest score in qualifying rounds was by Mr. Brython Phillips, Login, with a score of 185. Knockout: Mrs. Anita Davies, Newcastle Emlyn, and Mr. Dan Thomas, Llanelli; runners-up - Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie James from Tavernspite. Raffle prize winners were: whisky - Mrs. Val Howells, Whitland; whisky - Mrs. Jenny Orchard, Pembroke; sherry - Mrs. Gwen Stephens, Whitland; chocolates - Mr. John Parker, Reynalton; wine - Mr. Maurice Dunbar, Whitland; chocolates - Miss Helen Hughes, Jeffreyston; sherry - Mr. David Morris, Dinas; chocolates - Mrs. Margaret James, Reynalton; mystery - Mr. David Morris, Dinas.
