What could have been more perfect than the morning of Wednesday, April 11, for a coffee morning in aid of Cancer Research, organised by the Carew and Cresswell Quay local committee, for Cancer Research UK Cymru.
Spring in all its glory had captured the banks and grass verges with a wondrous display of celandine, primroses, violets and bluebells. The Church of St. Caradog stood proud, an imposing monument to parishioners of days past and present. All this in the tranquil setting of Lawrenny village.
The hall hummed with the sound of buyers and sellers, busy raising funds for this deserving cause. Coffee and tea, barabrith and more was served by smiling helpers. The stall groaned with goods from plants to bric-a-brac. The raffle was frantic!
At the end of the morning, those who had bought raffle tickets waited to see who had bagged the good selection of prizes, which had all been donated. The first prize was won and redrawn three times (committee members being the winners, but generously giving it back each time!). It was finally won by Eileen Phillips.
There were 10 prizes altogether, including beauty products, chocolates, wine, biscuits and a gift voucher to be spent at the Quayside, Lawrenny. The remaining prize winners were: Irene Bennett, Bronwyn Lewis, Rita Hughes, Jenny Williams, Sue Lomas, David Cole, Paula Ralph, Maurice Griffiths and Bethan Phillips.
Thanks go to all who supported this event and helped in any way, to Mr. Gould, especially for sitting in such a draughty position to take donations!
Lawrenny Hall was a new venture, and it was well received by everyone, so thanks must also go to those responsible for securing it for this event. The grand total for the mornings effort was £752.31. Keep up the good work!
