Members of Tenby Coastguard Unit will be putting their best feet forward next week to walk the strech of coastline they patrol in aid of charity.
HM Coastguard volunteers from all over the country are teaming up to walk round mainland Britain's coastline in a clockwise direction to raise money for the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a UK-based charity that promotes the integration of able-bodied and physically disabled people through the adventure of tall ship sailing.
The Coastwalk 2002 event, which is expected to take approximately one year to complete, started in Lands End at the beginning of January.
Members of the Tenby team will be taking over from their colleagues at Llansteffan on Monday and weather - and incidents - permitting will be walking from Amroth to Bosherston, where they will hand over to the Dale unit later in the week.
The team will be carrying Coastguard and Jubilee Sailing Trust emblems, pedometers, GPS's and a portable transponder for coastguard stations to monitor progress on a computer tracking system.
They will also pass on a logbook of names, dates and times and points of interest to form a permanent record on completion of the 4,300-mile walk.
Also, a Jubilee Sailing Trust mascot will be carried round and a bottle of Pussers Navy Rum, which will be auctioned at the end.
Local coastguards are collecting sponsorship and are hoping to raise a good sum of money for the charity. Anyone who would like to sponsor them is asked either to contact them individually or contact their office at Broadwell Hayes or headquarters at Milford Haven.
Footnote: 2002 is the centenary of the setting up of the Auxiliary Coastguard in Tenby. Although regular coastguard officers have been based in the town since 1829, Jason Folland was the first auxiliary to be enrolled in 1902.
