Two coasteerers were airlifted to safety on Sunday after getting into difficulty off the South Pembrokeshire coast.
The alarm was raised at 12.30 pm when a worried wife telephoned to the Coastguard Operation Room at Milford Haven stating she was concerned for her husband and another coasteerer who had missed their rendezvous time at Freshwater East.
Coastguard teams from St. Govans and Castlemartin, together with the Tenby RNLI all- weather and inshore lifeboats, were duly despatched to the area to begin a search of the cliffs and sea.
The coastguards from St. Govans discovered the pair in a cove and guided the lifeboats to the site. The coasteerers could not be taken out of the cove because of the rough seas and its inaccessibility. A rescue helicopter from RAF Chivenor was called and on its arrival at the scene was soon winching the two to safety. No medical attention was given, but both men from the Neyland area were warned of the dangers of their activities by the coastguard team.
