The Paul Sartori Foundation, Pembrokeshire’s only Hospice at Home Service, is launching the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path Challenge to celebrate its 35th anniversary year.
The local charity is appealing to 20 self-motivated individuals to join them walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, passing 58 beautiful beaches and 14 harbours and raise money for this special cause. The challenge will take place every weekend starting from Amroth on Saturday, April 22, with the last walk taking place on Saturday, July 15.
In 2015, a similar event raised in excess of £13,000 for the Paul Sartori Foundation, involving 14 participants, including local school children Josh and Jacob Hancock, who were aged nine and 10 respectively.
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path Challenge covers 186 miles with constant undulations throughout, with many narrow sections and stiles en route. The entirety of the coast path represents a considerable physical challenge – its 35,000-feet of ascent and descent is said to be equivalent to climbing Everest.
“This is a great opportunity for people who may have wanted to walk the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, but wish to do it accompanied. We are asking individuals to register and to raise additional sponsorship,” explained Toni Dorkings, community fundraiser for the Paul Sartori Foundation, adding: “Further information on this great opportunity and how you can register is on our website.”
The Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service provides a range of services to people living in the final stages of a life limiting illness, including home nursing care, equipment loan, standby service (for people who do not yet need hands-on care, but are given access to other services), complementary therapy, bereavement and counselling support, clinical nurse specialist in palliative care, physiotherapy, advance care planning and training.
The services provided by the Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service enable people who are living in the later stages of any life-limiting illness to die at home if that is their wish, with dignity, independence, pain free and surrounded by those they hold most dear.
