Clynderwen Young Farmers Club last weekend arranged yet another highly successful and enjoyable agricultural show at Parcyllwyn fields where young breeders predominate in the cattle and sheep sections. The young handler classes for calves and sheep are also very popular as is the very well supported horticultural section at the Community Hall. Shows of this nature in the locality date back to the early days of the calf rearing clubs and pioneering days of the YFC movement more than 70 years ago. Mindful of the increasing costs involved, it is to the enormous credit of the young people and a willing band of past members, friends and enthusiasts that the attraction still continues. Supreme from the horse and pony section was taken up by Claire Edwards with her Section A and Mountain and Moorland winner, the 12-year-old grey pony Syfynwy Bilberry. Other successful exhibitors included Bethan Simon, of Coxlake, on her six-year-old bay gelding, Powysvalley Tobago; Bea Bea Meyrick on her Show Hunter Pony, the six-year-old liver chestnut Belle Vue Royal Jester; Hannah James on Hazis, her eight-year-old bay gelding in the Children's Riding Pony Division; Austen Lewis on Wiz, his six-year- old black mare in the Working Hunter Pony class; Sarah Whitfield riding her own rose grey Hunter gelding, the four-year-old Johnston Diamond, and John Morris, Isfryn with his Coloured yearling filly, Maisie, shown in hand. Holsteins from Simon and Sian Davies led the cattle entries with their in-calf heifer, Castellhyfryd Champion Rose - due in October - taking supreme and the winning pair were also both home-bred, Outside Rosina and September Storm Rosina. An ewe lamb from Hampshire breeders Barry and Eirlys Jones took best from the sheep classes. President Vernon Beynon congratulated everyone, exhibitors, stewards, judges and the organising committee for ensuring that this marvellous annual event - greatly looked forward to be everyone - continued to thrive and flourish. Officials: Presidents - Vernon and Jill Beynon; Presidents- elect - Brian and Dilys Thomas; Chairman - Dylan Williams; vice-chairman - Edward Hartt; Secretaries - Julie and Sarah Wheeler and Lynys Davies (horticultural); Treasurer - Wendy Thomas.
