A local bowls club fundraising for new equipment has received a welcome donation from Valero Pembroke Refinery.
Narberth Short Mat Bowls Club formed in 1992, and its active membership meet regularly at the Bloomfield Community Centre. With around 20 members, the club is raising money to replace the mats used in their matches against other Pembrokeshire teams, and recently received a £100 donation from the refinery.
George James, said, “Some of the mats we use are now 25 years old and are past their sell by date. Trying to replace this vital equipment whilst trying to recruit new members is always a challenge, so we are very grateful for the support received from Valero towards our fundraising total.”
Stephen Thornton, refinery public affairs manager, said: “Local sports clubs are the backbone of our communities. As well as keeping participants fit and healthy, they offer a wonderful opportunity for people to socialise and meet friends and new acquaintances. Valero is very glad to be able to help this thriving club go from strength to strength.”
