Felinfoel 27 pts. Whitland 28

After their huge victory over local rivals Narberth the week before, this was always going to be a tricky match for Whitland and, with Felinfoel not winning one of their games so far this season, you knew they were going to be up for it.

But Whitland showed great commitment and team spirit to turn round a 22 points to 13 deficit at half-time to win this nail-biting Swalec League division one west clash by 28 points to 27 and earn a bonus point into the bargain.

With 20 minutes of the first half gone, the Borderers found themselves 14 points down, Felinfoel scoring two tries through fullback Stuart Wall and scrum-half Luke Marsh, with winger Rhodri Mason converting both.

Outside-half Carwyn Jones got Whitland's first points with a penalty after 23 minutes and flanker Dylan Richards got the first try after the ball shot out of a scrum and he was first to react. This went unconverted.

Six minutes later, again from an attacking scrum, number eight Luke Kendall picked up and drove over for Whitland's second try, again unconverted.

Rhodri Mason kicked a penalty for the home side and right on the half-time whistle outside-half Jonny Griffiths scored their third try, which Mason falied to convert, to leave the half-time score 22 points to 13 to Felinfoel.

Early in the second half, number eight Stuart Roberts crossed for the home side's bonus point try, which went unconverted.

But not to be outdone, Whitland hit back some five minutes later when replacement flanker Celt Thomas touched down, but with replacement scrum-half Huw Rees failing with the conversion, they were still 27-18 adrift.

After 26 minutes, however, second row Raff Williams crossed for Whitland's own bonus point try, which this time Rees converted, and when he banged over a penalty soon after, it gave the Borderers the lead for the first time in the match.

Four minutes from time, another Rees penalty struck the woodwork, which if successful would have left the home side needing to score a try to win.

As it failed, though, it meant a very tense last few minutes, but Whitland held on comfortably to win an exciting match.

Match referee was Mr. David Swain, of Penarth.
