The Welsh Government’s final budget was passed last week, with a committment to end the Cleddau Bridge tolls.

The Welsh Government now has two years to work with Pembrokeshire County Council to prepare for the phasing out of the tolls for vehicles to cross the Cleddau Bridge

Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Mid and West AM Simon Thomas said: “I’m delighted that the final budget will mean the clock is ticking on the Cleddau Bridge tolls.

“Many firms and local people will I’m sure welcome the lifting of this burden. There is some time now until 2020 to do the groundwork and to sort out the details of scrapping the tolls.

“It has been a long campaign. Plaid Cymru’s team has organised public meetings and I’ve quizzed the Welsh Government in the Senedd chamber, written letters pressing the case for the abolition of the tolls and met with campaigners over this issue.

“In the 2016 election campaign, I made scrapping the tolls a key pledge. Plaid Cymru has managed to do this in opposition, just imagine what we could do for the people of Pembrokeshire if we were in government.”
