Construction workers have found reminders that Saundersfoot's St. Brides Hotel was used as a base during the Second World War. Military notes dating back to September 11, 1944, have been found during the hotel's redevelopment beneath floorboards. "These notes contain a training exercise taking place in Jeffreyston with instructions to take 'Haversack Rations' on the cabling exercise with the promise of a 'hot meal on return' - this offer remains open as St. Brides Hotel is open for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner throughout November and December," said the hotel's director of sales and marketing, Paula Ellis. An interesting selection of bottles have also been discovered, including a 'Julysia tonic hair cream' which dates back to 1942, as well as numerous alcoholic bottles from James Williams, Narberth, and Hancocks, Cardiff and Swansea, who were acquired by BASS in 1968 and renamed Welsh Brewers. • The development at St. Brides is part of a project to develop the hotel and grounds as one of the leading independent hotels in South West Wales.
