Tenby’s ‘Soupermen’ joined forces with the Former Archbishop of Cantebury Rowan Williams on Sunday morning for a service at St. Mary’s Church.
His visit was to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Soupermen - when as the then Archbishop of Canterbury, he came to Tenby for he 800th anniversary of St Mary’s Church, and was made an ‘Honorary Souperman’ on that occasion.
The ‘Soupermen’ were started when the Rector Andrew Grace challenged the ‘men of the church’ to cook a Harvest Supper
On Sunday, Archbishop Rowan talked about the value of food and fellowship and how often it featured in the bible and how important it is in all of our lives.
There was also a blessing for the continued work of the Soupermen who after the service served up an anniversary cake and wine.
The cake, much enjoyed by the congregation, was prepared by Souperman wife, Lindy Wainwright.
This was followed by a meal with Archbishop Rowan at the Giltar Hotel on the Esplanade for clergy, ‘Soupermen and Superwives’.
St Mary’s Church altar assistant Malcolm Stacey remarked: “We are very proud of our Soupermen - as they do so much for the community - so it was especially fitting that Archbishop Rowan was kind enough to come to Tenby to mark the group’s tenth birthday, where he had a very warm welcome.”
