Members of Templeton Young Farmers Club embarked on a clean-up campaign in the Narberth area on Monday morning, targeting litter and rubbish that has been dumped by fly-tippers.

"We've covered a lot of the area this morning as part of this conservation project and we're all amazed and alarmed by the amount of fly-tipping that is occurring in the town," said Narberth's Pembrokeshire County Councillor, Clr. Wynne Evans, who helped co-ordinate the campaign. "We've picked up everything from tyres to oil drums and there's no excuse for why people are doing this; fly-tipping really is a scurge on our community.

"One area that was particularly bad was alongside the town's new astroturf pitch, with an alarming amount of high energy drinks bottles left there," remarked Clr. Evans. "We're very lucky to have such a facility, so it's up to people to respect and value it when using it, and I urge them to take their litter away with them."

The team will be taking on a number of other projects in Narberth in the coming weeks, including a tree-planting exercise.
