Sir, In reply to the unfortunate incident regarding the toilets in the Regency Hall last week, we felt it important to explain our position. Although the council provide public toilets which are situated in the car park opposite the hall, upwards of 40 people a week come in to the hall just to use our facilities. We have notices on the main door and the toilet doors explaining that they are for hall users only and we have a large foyer area where we sell refreshments and customers are welcome to use the toilets. We are a charity and have an obligation to keep running costs for the hall as low as possible. However, had the gentleman explained the situation with his little granddaughter it would not have been a problem as we do make allowances for small children and people with genuine difficulties; at the same time, we have a responsibility to our users to keep the toilets in pristine condition and not allow them to become public toilets. This is the same for many buildings, including restaurants, shops, council offices etc. We hope this clarifies the position and we send our apologies to the little girl and her grandfather for this unfortunate misunderstanding.
Regency Hall, Saundersfoot.
