Enthusiasts and tourists will be in for a real treat later this summer as steam travel returns to Tenby.
Pathfinder Tours are running a charter train from Bristol Temple Meads all the way to Pembroke Dock.
Last July, hundreds of people turned out at Tenby railway station to witness the A1 Pacific class steam locomotive ‘Tornado’ in all her glory.
This year the train will be hauled by Merchant Navy Pacific class locomotive ‘Clan Line.’
The locomotive was built by British Railways in 1948 and was one of the last steam engines to be withdrawn by the Southern Region in 1967.
Following its withdrawal, it was saved for preservation by the Merchant Navy Preservation Society group.
The train will head to West Wales at around 8 am on July 12, calling at Seven Tunnel Junction, Newport and Cardiff Central, before the route takes passengers west via Bridgend.
Clan Line will then head straight through Carmarthen on the outward leg before heading down the line to Tenby to drop passengers off at around 12.30 pm.
The steam train will then head down the line to Pembroke Dock where Clan Line will be serviced.
On the return journey, the train will be diesel hauled as far as Carmarthen where it will be detached before the train heads back eastwards with steam at the helm.
