Town and community councils could soon be enforcing their own fines for anyone found guilty of littering offences. Clerk to Tenby Town Council, Mr. Andrew Davies, informed members of the legislation, which is part of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, at their meeting last week. Mr. Davies gathered the information after recently attending a regional conference in Aberavon for the Society of Local Council Clerks. The legislation would give town and community councils the power to enforce fixed penalty notices for such illegal acts as littering, dog fouling, fly- posting and fly-tipping. New measures are also in the pipeline to allow councils to clamp down on noise intrusion by also issuing fines, Mr. Davies informed members.
