Sir,
In response to Mr. John Griffiths's letter regarding the proposed civic amenity site. As a resident of Newell Hill, living in the back row of the estate, at a fair distance from the Salterns site, I can confirm that there is a considerable amount of noise from the civic amenity site. But residents who live in this area of town accept it because it is an important amenity for Tenby.
I would object to the proposed site next to the Brooklands nursing home for many reasons.
More traffic on an already fast busy road, the smell, vermin nuisance. But mostly for the noise nuisance. Mr. Griffiths refers to the landscaping of the area as if describing a proposed country park or picnic site and believes that this would enhance Brooklands gardens!
(This would be with the background noise of skips being moved, noisy heavy vehicles compacting rubbish into skips and glass smashing).
Residents of care homes with some illnesses can be frightened and confused at times and need peace and quiet. They would probably have to stop using their garden when the amenity site is open.
Surely the most appropriate place for a new civic amenity site would be the back Salterns Car Park. This car park is only used for a few weeks a year.
Last summer it was only half to threequarters full, even on the busiest days of the summer season. There is plenty of room there for both parking and a new site.
The council's excuse for not using this area in case of flooding is unfounded. Surrounding areas have flooded, but the car park is on the same level as the ambulance station and coastguard station, plus lots of independent businesses.
Surely these would not have been placed there if the risk was that severe.
Hopefully Pembrokeshire County Council will see sense and scrap the proposed scheme.
Newell Hill resident
