Sir,
On Wednesday of last week, Pembrokeshire County Council held an information exhibition on the proposed civic amenity site at New Hedges. There were detailed plans on show; charming, smooth- talking personnel in attendance and a leaflet for attendees - meant to have been distributed to locals before the meeting -which I had not received.
The information exhibition at New Hedges made the proposed civic amenity site look like a picnic area.
I couldn't help but be reminded of a film seen on Channel 4 two nights previously. It was called 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' in which there is a scene of a propaganda film depicting a Concentration Camp as though it was a holiday camp.
The civic amenity plans show 'existing woodland' and 'new screening' in bright green, to hide what will in effect be an industrial site on the main approach road to Tenby, Pembrokeshire's, 'Jewel in the Crown'.
One imagines that once we go there with our waste we'll want to remain for the rest of the day as it looks so good - and, of course, there's not going to be any noise or smell to disturb a picnic lunch - we might even be able to borrow an old mattress to lie out and sunbathe!
Pat Francis,
