Tenby adventurer, Rosie Swale Pope has contacted the Observer this week to wish all her friends a merry Christmas.

Rosie, who is taking part in a 20,000-mile voyage on two feet round the world, telephoned us on Wednesday from northern Poland to report her progress and send greetings to everyone in her home town.

Already having completed 2,500km of her journey, Rosie is ploughing through deep snow and experiencing blizzard conditions.

"It is much harder than I expected and I have had many adventures," said Rosie, who unfortunately lost her mascot, an Observer teddy bear, somewhere in Hamburg.

"I have come across wild boar and wolves, so sleeping out at night has been quite risky," she continued.

"I will be thinking of everyone taking part in the Boxing Day Swim and will be doing it in spirit," she added, wishing everyone a happy Christmas.
