A family's evening stroll to fetch a fish and chip supper resulted in their 'chipped' dog embarking on a rather strange journey.
Anne and Jeremy Rossiter, who run Manorbier Stores and Post Office, were out with their children, Katy, Tom and Ben, near their home in Strawberry Lane, Penally, walking with their dogs, Charlie and Odie, when the story unfolded.
At the time, they were on the way to the local chip van, but as their was a queue, the children decided to walk back home ahead of their parents, with the dogs following.
However, when all the family made it back to base, they discovered that Charlie, their four-year-old tan and black Jack Russell, was missing.
"We were naturally very concerned and worried; we thought he may have double-backed towards us, but there was no sign of him and we just didn't know what to do," explained Anne, who along with the family put posters up in the area asking if anyone had seen their missing dog.
After an agonising weekend had passed, Jeremy returned home from work on the Tuesday and checked the messages on their phone, to find that they had received a call with news regarding Charlie's whereabouts.
"We had a message from a veterinary surgery to say that Charlie was with them, but bizarrely, it was a call from a vets in Bridgend, who said that our dog had turned up at their practice!" said Anne.
"Luckily Charlie was micro-chipped so that the vets could identify him and trace him back to us, but we still have no idea how he ended up in Bridgend and can only think that someone picked him up off the road and took him that far.
"Thank goodness we had him chipped, as he would have been lost to us forever if we hadn't. It shows to other pet owners that it really is such an important thing to do," she added.
